Suzanne Poirier
Fiber and Mixed Media Artisan
In the artist's own words:
When I think back, a gift of a handmade blue yarn doll, a box of 64 Crayola Crayons, and my Aunt Mary were my first inspirations to become a maker of things. I guess you could say that I am an intrepid artisan. I like to explore mixing different art mediums with craft processes, sometimes resulting in "Mixed Mayhem," but I flourish when I make ‘mistakes’ because it opens up possibilities…to repurpose and inspire future projects. You can’t do art wrong!
My Grandson Danny once said to me, “Nana, you’re a guerrilla artist. You travel all over the world to make your art.” (Well, I did have a fiber art studio on an alpaca farm in the Bombay Hills of New Zealand!)
Before I knew what ‘art therapy’ was, I was making it. Being a maker of things has many times buoyed me through life’s trials. And it brings me joy!
Although my materials are varied, fiber and texture are my bailiwick. Over the years, I have taken many artistic classes and further shared my experiences by offering creative workshops. I’ve exhibited my work, and have been commissioned to create small- and-large scale custom projects in the public and private sectors.
I am delighted to join the many talented artists at Hemlock Studio Gallery! Going forward, I’m endeavoring to adapt and share my lifelong artful skills with those who are looking to heal through a creative process.
